Minimum requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must be a resident of Nassau or Suffolk County at time of application.
  • Must submit to a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must purchase text materials for related instruction classes, as required (average $200 per year).
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.

Apprenticeship Application Release Date April 28-May 9 2025 - (3/28/2025)

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Plumbers, Local Union #200, will conduct a recruitment from April 28, 2025 through May 9, 2025 for 30 Plumber apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be obtained from Plumbers Local Union #200, 375 Central Avenue, Bohemia, NY 11716 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  Applications must be submitted via U.S. Postal Service using certified mail with return receipt requested. All applications must be postmarked no later than May 16, 2025. If not postmarked by May 16, 2025, the application will not be considered.

Applicants will take an on-line aptitude test. Applicants who score 80% or higher on that test (or the top 100 candidates, whichever is greater) will be offered an interview with the training committee. A link to the test will be provided when the application is picked up and applicants must complete an on-line test on or before 11:59 p.m. on May 16, 2025. Please contact the JAC at (631) 567-3083, if anyone needs to use the JAC computer to take the on-line test. Applicants offered an interview will be contacted and advised of the time and date of the interview. Interviewees must complete all forms sent to them and bring them to the interview, including proof of work or relevant classroom experience.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). One year of High School Algebra required.
  • Must sign an affidavit that they are physically able to perform the work of a Plumber, which may include:
  • Working an eight (8) hour day continually on your feet.
  • Lifting and carrying weights in excess of 75 pounds for extended periods.
  • Working through periods of extreme weather conditions or temperatures.
  • Working in restrictive and confined spaces.
  • Working at heights of 20 feet or more on ladders, scaffolds, scissor lifts or boom lifts.
  • Working in ditches or trenches up to six feet deep.
  • Must be a resident of Nassau or Suffolk County as shown by the address on the application.
  • Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings in English.
  • Must take a Wonderlic Select Test administered by the JATC. There is no testing fee. Must score over 80% or be one of the top 100 scorers on the test to be considered for an interview.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must submit to and pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must be willing to pay approximately $200 per year for related instruction training books.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
